Electric Drive Solar Kiosk

Picture
Beth Ferguson, PI
Dallas Swindle, designer

Electric Drive Solar Kiosk is part of Austin Energy’s Electric Drive showcase at the Seaholm EcoDistrict, the solar kiosk combines solar technology, public art and civic place making. The solar kiosk provides shaded seating, LED lighting and free solar power for charging up electric bikes and wheelchairs along with mobile electronics, day and night. The design repurposes an iconic 1950’s gas pump outfitted with electrical outlets and solar battery storage.

The project was featured in the "Better Together Design" exhibition hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. San Francisco, California.
